Macmillan Charity Hike – June, 2022

7pm Finish!

I’m very pleased to report that my marathon hike in the Lake District ended with me completing it in just under 11 hours! It was quite a day – an amazing day in fact. The views were incredible, weather perfect, and the company of other participants and the support of the Macmillan Team could not have been better.

It was not easy by any means, and today I can do a very good impression of C3PO! 🙂 But all the people involved in the hike were awesome, and a special big shout out to Jen and Carmel who it was such pleasure to share time with, and Paul who unbelievably achieved the great hike dressed as Captain America – you definitely belong in the Incredibles rather than avengers!

I would like to sincerely thank All my sponsors, who have helped me raise over £1,200 for Macmillan Cancer Charity, and to those who have also pledged more upon completion. Friends, family, colleagues, and neighbours – You are all Amazing and I am so grateful to you!

Unstoppable today

An early start for my 26 mile hike in the Lake District to raise much needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Charity.

Thank you so much to all those who have supported my fundraising, you are all amazing, and I am SO grateful! Hitting my target of over £1K in just 2 weeks is unbelievable and will make me work that much harder as the going gets tough on this hike today, which as you can see from the topography will not exactly be a walk in the park. But, I will be unstoppable!

LAKELAND HIKE TO SUPPORT MACMILLIAN

Marathon Lakeland Hike

From an early age, the support of my Grandmother, Greta Massey, had a huge influence on my life: She provided my own much needed bedroom at her house, and incredible holidays in the Lake District each summer, which massively supported me.

I also clearly remember one time in the 1980’s coming back to her house to find an Asian lady I didn’t know sat in her lounge. Apparently, my Grandma Greta had seen her and her little girl crying at a bus stop in the centre of Blackpool and kindly stopped to see what was the matter. The lady had lost her purse, or had it stolen, whilst in Blackpool and had no way to get home. My Grandma brought them back with her in her little blue Morris Minor, provided a nice meal, and then arranged for a taxi for them all the way back to Birmingham that night. That was just one instance, but she helped so many people in her life, it was in Her nature.

She was such an amazing woman, teacher, and caring person (and yes she also wore funky glasses!). The way she informed my life, and about giving to others, was instrumental to me. She died of cancer, in her back, which was so painful and terrible for her. This 26 mile hike in the Lake District will be in her honour. She made me what I am, and I will always love her greatly for it.
